Hell no chase, I'll take it with smiles! What's the next boat gonna be?

Jk, I understand.... We've got a sister company that handles suspension and off-road parts, mostly doing new dealer trucks. I stick with the mobile electronic side. The decision to hold off on hertz/audison was mainly from the main installer. Same idea, let's not confuse.

Hopefully a G23, wouldn't mind a 24mxz either. I don't think I'll be able to afford a m235 for 10 years or I'd buy one lol

Haha, very proud!!!

Ivery got a rep that's pushing hertz/audio pretty hard at me. I even filled out the dealer agreement, but with my demographics and the inevitable death of car audio, I decided to hold off. I've sat in some of the hertz demo cars at ces and mera knowledgefest, and they all sounded great. That company is growing and I think they're doing great.

By going to that dealer and listening to those speakers it helped your decision. Buying stuff blindly from the Internet is like buying an expensive t shirt only to find it doesn't fit when you get it home.

Listen to the focal flax line. You'll love them.

Same shop has Focal, it just wasn't on the same display as the Hertz and JL Audio stuff (the Hertz smoked the JL's in my back to back listening... Same deck, amp, and song. Don't remember what JL model it was).

the salesman did take me out to listen to some crazy high end Focals in the store managers JKU (same rig I'm working on). I was amazed. But I didn't ask for the model numbers. I'm sure they are more than I want to spend. But I'm going to go back when I have more time. I got the guy's card.

See this is the problem with brick and mortar shopping. It usually results in me spending more cuz I get carried away. Lol

Did you get to hear the focal that was in the store? Curious as to their approach and opinions. I love seeing what other shops are doing so I can use that as a lessons learned to make myself better. What was the name of the shop?

jonyb,

Take another long look at Hertz/Audison.

With more OEM source electronics that are difficult to replace, a digital sound processor like the Bit units have become the new high end head unit.

I'm now removed form the industry for 2 1/2 years, however, Earmark was doing DSP from Sony ES and Alpine F1 Status in the early 90s, nearly 25 years ago, and do an absolute ton of DSP today. IMO, it's not something you can ignore any longer with the direction that OEM is going.

And what you learn from installing DSP will permanently change the way you tune basic systems forever.

Btw, having my choice between all the best speaker products available, I am running Hertz/Audison component speakers in two of my vehicles.

Reach out to me if you want to get into a deeper conversation.

Shawn,

Sure, no doubt the Arc PS8 is a valid unit.

Hertz/Audison has much more to offer than DSP, including some of the best dealer technical training available, speakers, some very cost-effective multi-channel amplifiers with DSP built in, and company direction.

Murphy,

To get the most out of any processor, especially a unit like the PS8, it has to be set up in 'THE' boat, and not the same boat with different equipment.

David i use the mosconi 6to8 processor, and the new D2 amps have processing built-in. Also have the bluetooth chip to add to them. My display is an iPad mini, D2 100.4dsp, and D2 500.1, the dsp has the wired display remote that controls volume, sub level, and preset. Used a 6to8 with oem head unit in my 14 silverado.

I think mosconi has all the same solutions that audison does.

Shawn the ps8 is a valid option, I talked to chris (national sales manager) at sema and he said the controller should be ready to ship soon. That's been a long time coming.

Have you ever run just a pair of well powered components up front and a sub? In that scenario, for the driver anyway, the rears are at best superfluous and at worst a distraction.

I have disconnected them and like the sound with them there better. I do use a coax version in the same speaker line to save a little though.

I figured I'd use them for the same thing. More of a "filler" than anything. One thing I actually liked about my Lsv That most hated were the speakers on the dash. With those, subs at my feet, rev 10's above my head and speakers in the back you literally felt like you were in the music. No telling how many people I had out with me that loved it. Not once did I have someone in the back half of the cabin complain that the rev 10's were melting their face off lol. Edited by tn_rider

That's a little different then in a truck.....

In you're truck, the goal is to sound like the music is a concert on the dash. A little rear fill is okay, but take into consideration that those speakers need an amp, or a couple channels from an amp. I don't know how much you're wanting to sink in to this, but you could use the Mosconi 80.6DSP - 2 channels powering the rear, and 4 channels bridged mono would power the fronts. Then you'd just need another amp for subs. That amp has processing built in.

Well change of plans. I had a 11 Silverado. Kept it for 2 weeks. Absolutely hated it. Traded it for an 11 F150...I know I know this is the F150 site but I'm a believer!! Leaps and bounds better than the Silverado IMO. Same system different truck. Does this change the airspace I have for subs in the rear?

We actually just did a complete system in a 2010 F-150 yesterday. I hate those trucks. Had to get to the Sony amp under the center console. That wasn't fun!

We did 4 Wet Sounds 6.5's firing forward in a sealed enclosure. He had an SD6 from his boat that we installed, but I didn't get to hear it before I left that day. Did 2 pair of Alpine Type R components in the doors. Alpine INE-W960 head unit.

Ouch haha I don't think mine has the Sony sub. I could be wrong. I picked up a spare iPad mini and hoping Ill be able to get it in the dash. Also want built in wifi. I'll be traveling quite a bit in it and picked up passport escort 9500CI radar for $350. A STEAL!! Built in wifi on my truck will probably be my favorite feature.

Does that 9500 block the side collision sensors? I sell a K40 portable that blocks that. My older 8500 goes crazy next to a new Escalade.

The sony sub is under the rear seat. Non-existent at louder levels. We had to get to the OEM amp to get signal to the driver door speaker. The doors have a molex plug so it's not easy to add a new wire to the front and rear doors for speakers.

As much as I hate Pioneer, I'll probably bring in the carplay head units just to be diverse.

You know Alpine has the Restyle kit for that Ford, right?

I've seen the alpine units for the F150. I'm going to do a cheaper unit at first then add the alpine unit after. Hard to swing at over 2 grand lol. Can't let the HOH know I dropped that much for a head unit LOL

save up, because the dash kit, interface harness, and antenna adaptor for that truck is pricey, and not re-usable. You'd be out $200-$300 just in parts depending on the color of the radio bezel. The last one I bought was around $100 (ash satin). Then the cost of the head unit.....

  • 2 weeks later...

Well, my truck is home and it ROCKS. More than I imagined!! The customer service at Pro Installz is second to none. John went out of his way to get my build done and I'm more than impressed! Started off with the alpine ine-927hd 7 inch head unit. The components are the Focal K2 series powered by an alpine PDX amp. For bass we went with the alpine type R shallow mount sub powered by an alpine PDX amp. Here are a few pics of the build. Note: I had said nothing to john about my box color. He went out of his way to make sure it matched the lighter colors in my interior.
