HELP LSV with Hammer head NO SPARK

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone i need some ideas here because im stumped, ill start from the beginning

Last weekend we put the boat in, Really hot day temperatures in the high 40s. Took it off the trailer and ran it across the lake and to a friends house where we stopped to have a chat for about half and hour. Got back in the boat and drove off and suddenly the boat

started running really rough to the point it lost all acceleration to the point of stalling. We got towed into shore where we had a good look at it.

Took the dizzy cap off and replaced it with a spare. And it ran..... for a few hours got a solid wakesurf and board each in and tried to go home. same problem really running rough until point of stall. Got towed in and boat will not start at all.

so far we have gone through the process of replacing the following:

Ignition coil / start module / hall effect sensor (inside dizzy) / dizzy cap / rotor button

we also tried to bridge the red reset button located on the side of the gear box.

there continues to be no spark from the coil. we have also checked all plugs / relays and fuses on the wiring harness. The boat also never threw a code and there was no warning on the dash. Our fuel pump still works and still primes when key is turned!

Totally out of ideas both us and our mechanics are stumped.

HELLLP please!!

Boat is a 2006 LSV with a 400 Hammer head

Could it be the infamous lanyard kill switch?

They are a high probability of failure. The key indications are engine will crank but not fire AND the dash gauges do not activate.

Many of these switches have been replaced or, in my case, bridged out and removed permanently...

Replacing the dizzy cap, with a spare got you operational again leads to that area as the culprit. Check for loose grounds on the coil as well as all plug wires and coil wire. Check both ends of all connections.

Good luck.

We have yes, its been sitting in the gaurage for 4 days now and still no spark. We have replaced the Ignition control module. It does have a crank sesnor and its not coming up with any faults, we fault tested it with a scan guage and it came up fine. we did this by turning the ignition on no fault, unplugging crank sensor and it threw a fault

Do you have Diacom? Is the engine ECM seeing RPM signal when cranking? The ECM will not let the ignition / fuel circuits turn on until the crank sensor sees RPM signal.

Where are you checking spark at? Do you have spark off the ignition coil? After the cap? At the plug? if not after the coil, check your input and output voltages (make sure to not pierce the wires with a probe) If the coil is not getting input voltage, check the fuse and relay for that circuit. Swap with another relay (all three are the same) to see if you have spark but then loose crank or fuel circuits. If still have same issue, the engine ECM is not turning on the circuits. If it sees rpm and is not turning on the ignition circuit, most likely a controller issue. If you have diacom flash the ECM with a new calibration first, if that does not work you most likely need a controller.

Anything lead up to the problem? Low voltage? high voltage? Jump started boat? etc?

i would give you a link to the diagnostic manual off our website to help but the Admin's will just delete my post so do a quick search for a mefi5 diagnostic manual and it will help you tremendously going thru the process of elimination.

Hope that helps!!

Hi :)

We are testing spark from the coil and nothing (this is with the new coil in it) we have also tested the relays and they are all fine, we have gone through and checked all fuses and connections and cleaned up any bad looking connections and still nothing. It also does see rpm.

we have just replaced our alternator as it wasn't charging properly so not giving us high enough voltage. We also have just replaced the oil pressure switch as it failed.

Right now we are thinking possibly its the computer thats given out
