New tower speakers to go with PG Tantrum 500.2?

My tower speakers are Kicker Impulse 6.5's, and probably original to my boat. They're powered by a Phoenix Gold Tantrum 500.2. The kickers are showing their age, so I want to change them. After looking at the amp specs (125w rms @ 4 ohms) i'my having trouble finding replacements that can handle that much power. Really the only thing I can find are some 6x9's or 8's. Should I change the amp and stick with new 6.5's, or shell out the coin for some Icon 8's?

2 pods, but could add more. Goal is to hear the music at 70 off while wakeboarding. Since I bought the boat so late in the season, we only took it out 4 times. Honestly, I know the tower speakers work, but I never tried to turn them up while pulling. I assume 2 6.5's won't be able to provide good sound that far?

The Kicker KM654 or KMS67 will handle it, so will the Wet Sounds XS-650 or JL M650. Question is, will these fit the pods?

What are your goals and how many tower pods do you have?

The specs on these speakers, except for the hlcd, say they handle 100w rms or less. Isn't my amp too much?

You need to move on to a new tower setup and amp. rather then the Wet Sounds Icon, you need to look at the Wet Sounds Rev-8 and something like the Syn-2 or HT-4. The Kicker KMS67 would be a good option, but you would need a 2nd pair of pods.

Moot point now, but a little over the speakers stated RMS is always a good thing. Especially when those amp specs are taken at 14.5V, which is rarely seen. Those Coaxials are all great speakers, just not the best for wake range projection.

True, the amp is rated for less at 12.5 volts. 75 watts I think. I didn't think about that until you mentioned it. I was just hoping to get out cheaper since I would rather spend big money to outfit my boat for surfing, or new swivel racks.

So you think some Rev 8's and a nicely matched amp would be enough to hear at wakeboard lengths? I'm not looking to win any audio contests or rock the lake, just want to hear jams while riding.

If you could find another set of cans you could use the kicker HLCD km6500? As a low cost alternative to wet sounds (but don't expect the same results) they are a good price point alternative.
