Changing Rack Location

Recommended Posts

teamerickson

I have my racks in the upper location and I hate how boards drip on the seats and cup holder area. Wondering if dropping them down to the lower location would help much? I'll probably try it anyway just wondering if anybody has any experience.

I think the rope gets caught a lot more on boards in the lower position

This is one of the things I noticed right away on my demo ride in the Axis. Really bad design, IMHO. Why have racks hanging off the side if they still drip inside the boat. Even my old 2003 Tige doesn't do that. Still trying to decide between an Axis and several other brands...and this issue has bummed me out. Petty, I know. I got excited with your idea of using the lower position...but sounds like it still won't fix it. bummer.

The new tower looks a little better.

New Tower? You mean the one first used for 2015?

Yes. It changed in 2015. I've got a 2014.

Ya...I know it changed. But they still drip all over the seats. I demoed a '15.

I've got a '15 as well.

I do plan on replacing my pair of factory swivel racks with 4 aftermarket racks. Not sure it will change anything but I need more board storage and large spaced racks as well, so would be a nice bonus if they stuck out a bit more preventing the leaking inside the boat.

yes i have a 15 and it drips in cup holders and seats, and i have alot of people switching jackets and we tend to hang them over the boards and rack, and the water gets annoying quick. i was looking at making a piece that would be able to pivot the rack just a little bit further out so it will not do this.

I went with the Skylon for more board storage. It does stick out a little further with the Axis adapter.

Pics? And it still leaks in the boat?

Kind of hard to see. Not sure about wakeboard drips. Usually put surfboards in it.

Did you just buy one Skylon rack? I'm thinking about buying four of the triple racks, do you know if kneeboards fit in the center "surf" spot? We've got minimum 3 wakeboards, 3 surfboards and 1 kneeboard on the boat at all times, really need the space.

Yes, just bought one surf/surf rack. Not sure about the knee board?

I'd be interested in buying your Axis racks if you decided to sell them. Just FYI.

Are you guys immediately putting up your boards right after getting out of the water? I barely have a few drops dripping. When I get done wakeboarding i shake my board 4-5 times (bindings upside down to drain trapped water) while still on the platform, I hand my board to one of my friends and they lay it on its side on the floor letting almost all the water to drain out. By the time the next rider is ready there's almost no water dripping and then we put the board up just before pulling the rider.

I have my racks in the top location and I always shake my board out a bit and put the wet board on the bottom slot with the bindings hanging down.

If you put the wet board on the top slot with the bindings facing up, then you will get more water draining down the board and into the boat.

Yup, because the water is trapped in the boot cushion/liner then seeps out and going the only place it can go...down the board and into the boat. Hang the board upside after letting it drain and the little water inside the boot empties out the boot top which is upside down and further away from the boat. Helps a lot with older style tower to put wet boards in the bottom rack and the rack mounted in the lower tower position Edited by AJWest

I have spinner racks in both locations. The only time I have water drop in is if I have a wet board up top, it drips on to the bottom board, then into the boat. Or if the wind is blowing.

I find with the bottom racks, the board boots will hit the boat spray when the boat is loaded, in heavy chop or a tight turn.
