Thermostat, Gasket + Sealant?

I'm replacing the thermostat and gaskets (one at thermostat and the one between intake manifold). I noticed there was some sealant used from the factory. I was thinking only use one or the other, not both.

Should I use some sealant with the gaskets? What kind?

I'm not sure what the factory recommends, but I use this stuff on both sides of thermostat and most other gaskets:

All depends on what the two halves of the housing look like and the style of gasket. If the housing halves are pitted and its a plain paper gasket, then yes, a thin film of sealer is a good idea. If the gasket is a rubber oring type or its a paper gasket with a silicone bead embedded, then extra sealer is likely not needed.
