Sunsetter Lxi thoughts

I'm thinking of upgrading from my 95 Sunsetter to a newer one. Just starting to look into it.

I know I want an Lxi. First question is, are all Lxi's on the diamond hull ? Any thoughts on differences between a 2000 and 2001?

There are two within a couple hours drive. Indianapolis and Sandusky.

I think both are negotiable in price, but they are asking kind of a big difference between them. Is the tower in the one totally guady? I dont have one now.

Thanks for any thoughts !

I think they are all on the diamond hull, I have an 01 and am very pleased with it. i like my dash much better than that 2000. The trailer is also much nicer on the 01. Not sure if that is worth anything to you.

Boat #1 is over priced IMO. I say that because I bought my 2001 Sunsetter Lxi with very similar options and significantly less hours 6 years ago for $19.5K. Granted 2009 was a different landscape for the economy than today, but not that different.

According to the spec guide that boat only comes in diamond hull for those years. http://www.themalibucrew.com/forums/index.php?/page/specs/2001.html

The only difference between the '00 and '01 as far as I know is the dashboard was updated for the '01 - '04 models. The control panel went from turn knob style switches to rocker switches.

So if it was my money I'd be patient and wait for an '01 or newer to come on the market in the $20k range.

That '01 is gorgeous, but it's a Michael Jackson boat. It looks different every time you see it. Sometimes with tower, sometimes without, sometimes with bimini, sometimes without... wonder what it looks like now.

'01 and up is the way to go as the others have said. Nothing wrong with '00 but the dash really is a lot nicer in the later models. '01 is the sweet spot for the Monsoon too. There were running issues in '02 and '03 that made the motor slightly less desirable without a reflash of the ECM.

The one in Indy is high. I talked to the seller last year before he listed it when I was looking for a boat. He's primarily a skier and has a private lake to ski on with a newer boat that IIRC is a club boat. He's hesitant to sell the SSLXi. He's in a position where he doesn't really have to sell it and has some emotional attachment to it. IIRC he's the original owner. Someone from BOS referred me to this guy and mentioned that the boat is immaculate. It would be well worth talking with the guy and seeing what he has to say and what kind of flexibility he has on price.

It is in Texax, but the price is nice at 17500. http://easttexas.craigslist.org/boa/5194186643.html

My friend purchased a 2000 a few years ago for 14K. It needed a little love on the interior, but it is one heck of a boat now.

Search Tempest for LXIs on Craigslist http://goo.gl/gtkTC0

That boat is actually in Louisiana over near Shreveport, it also has a Titan 1 tower on it (not Monster tower like the add says). Also, if you take off the tower speakers, he should have a bimini top that mounts to the tower. I know since I am the one who powder coated the tower yellow and ordered the bimini from Star One when I owned it

One for sale in Champaign, IL. Priced in between the ones listed so far.

947 hours, and clearly they have been working on bringing it back to life and still have interior issues. Single axle. That looks like a 14-16k boat to me....

Good luck on your search Steve. I owned two LX's before upgrading to my current LXi. While I really like my LXi, it's not a better boat in all aspects. It has more room and storage, and I really like the rear locker and the ice chest moved to the bow instead of the observers seat, but the LX threw a better wake boarding wake. (At least without ballast...) I agree with the '01 dash being better, but that's a pretty minor difference. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions, I've been crawling through my LXi for over a year now and know it well and how it compares to the LX. I love how the LXi handles though, it's like a sports car. Compared to the LX it stays much flatter when turning and feels more responsive IMO. LX handles chop slightly better.

As has been mentioned, the difference between the 2000 and 2001 is minor (only the dash). More important to me would be condition. I have owned a 2000, and now own a 99. I do prefer the 2000 over the 99 due to the added accent colors in the gelcoat, and the 3 piece rear seat vs the 1 piece. The dash switch difference is too minor for me, so color and condition would trump the year from 2000-2004.

The most important question would be what year did they add the cupholder down at the driver's feet, because neither the 1999 or 2000 have one. Major design flaw!!

My 2001 had the drivers side foot cupholder
