Winterizing & Cooling System Advice

I have a 2000 Sportster LX with 550 hours on it.

Wanted to winterize it today for the first time myself, and have some questions that I would value your feedback on.

Here are my questions:

1) I think it has a closed cooling system or a partially closed cooling system. Can someone please confirm what type of system I have and also explain how this works? How do I winterize this system? So far, I have taken the hoses off the outside ends and let the water drain out of the hose and the long cooling system black tube.

2) What is this piece? It seems like the hoses run from this part to the transmission?

3) Is seems like the 2 hoses to the heater are filled with coolant (not water) (One in picture has green tape on it). Does this sound correct? Is there anything I need to do to winterize the heater?

You appear to have an aftermarket closed cooling system. The heat exchanger is under the pulley.

The second photo shows your transmission cooler, which should be in line between the raw water pump and the exchanger, but I can't tell if your installation is that way. Trace the hoses from the raw water pump to the exchanger to find out.

Your heater should come off the intake manifold and return at the base of the circulation pump. If so, you have antifreeze in it and don't need to do anything to it to winterize.

Basically, you just need to drain the raw water from the intake hose, the exchanger, and the exhaust manifolds/risers. That may be as simple as pulling the impeller plate from the raw water pump and making sure that you don't have water trapped in a loop anywhere.
