Need some direction

Recommended Posts

A friend of mine just bought a Bayliner. Not all bad, he is an avid fisherman no tubes, skies, or wakeboards. It is a 25 footer I/O 5.7 liter Mercruiser.

For what he paid for it the boat will suit him well. He was looking for something with sleeping quarters, galley, and head, which he got with a rather nice layout.

Onto the problem. He is telling me he gets an audible alarm at anything 2800 RPM and above. Temp is fine and the other two audible alarms are oil pressure, and some kind of outdrive problem. I told him I would take a look at it tomorrow afternoon.

Any ideas ? I do not know what the oil pressure reads at that RPM, sender?

Anything under 2800 RPM according to him is fine.

Mounted on the engine up high. About a pint sized rectangular bottle. There is a level sensor in there that sounds the alarm when the level is low.

thanks

Based on zero first hand knowledge: if the engine oil level was too high, at higher RPMs would it light off an oil pressure sensor?

My first response to this thread title was: Friends don't let friends buy Bayliners". But once I took my snob hat off I realized two things:

1. For your friend's needs, that is a good boat

2. Most Bayliner owners are simply future Malibu owners. It's all good.
