Tachometer bouncing

Recommended Posts

dtb

When running my tachometer is bouncing all over the place. This is the large analog tach. When running at speed it is bouncing all over from 3000 to over 4000 rpm. RPM reading on the PerfectPass display is steady. I recently replaced my ignition coil which seems to be when this issue with the tach started. Motor seems to be running fine overall. I also recently (couple weeks ago) replaced the ignition control module but the tach didn't start doing this until after I replaced the coil. Could be entirely unrelated but thought is was worth mentioning. Everything seems to be working fine otherwise so I am thinking (hoping) this is just a bad connection or bad sender. I have a video I will try to post separately.

Any thoughts are appreciated. Hope you all had a great Labor Day weekend.

Is there a tach lead on the coil? That would the first thing to check, see if you have a bad connection or messed up a terminal when the coil was changed.

There are two plugs that connect to the coil (other than the spark wire to the distributor cap). Can anyone tell me if either of those is signal for the tach?
