Ecm failure!

What makes an ecm go bad? Down at Norris for a great weekend...got boat off trailer, parked at the dock ...and then no ecm reading for 25 seconds... At least it was not out in a cove or in the midfle of the lake. Paddled it down to ramp and cranked it up on the trailer... Rented a boat for 1 day. Needless to say, pretty tough weekend and going to be an expensive fix I think.

I had an ECM supposedly go bad on me. Not sure what causes it. Too bad, I used to keep the old one for a spare, but it went with the new owner.

THey at least gave me the old one back, I plugged it in and found it to be working perfectly. The dealership gouged me $1200 for that. Hopefully yours is not that bad.

Tailored, what motor do you have in your boat? 8.1??

My Malibu had the 6.2. But the extra ECM is with its new owner. I suppose if they are interchangeable, he could send it to you. Although with the symptoms you describe, I am thinking it is more like a ground/power problem, not in the ECM itself.
