Swivel Rack Maintenance

Recommended Posts

Recently on of my swivel racks has been acting up by not locking in the out position. I have to jostle it around to get it to lock. Is there any maintenance associated with this? Anyone else had the issue?

I do have to swivel that one every time I pull on to the hoist so it does get used quite a bit.

I did a little research on this a few months ago because one of mine was acting up. My research led me to believe it might be over lubricated. That would cause the pin to easily slip out. I never did anything about it. I just wiggle it to make sure it's locked in.

When I swivel the rack back out, the pin is not locking the rack in place. I have to push it up and work the rack back and forth a bit before it really locks with the pin fully engaged. It has degraded overtime and the other side which is used less, is operating fine.

Push it up? Pulling it up releases the rack unless yours are upside down from mine.

Still not clear, if you manually press the pin into the locked position, does it not lock?

On the Axis and the 2016 Malibu's, the pin for the swivels are from the underside of the rack, not the top side that most of us are used to.

Raimie, I have had similar problems with mine from "dropping" down into the hole and locking but I have not found a cure.

I've had to clean mine out. The pin hole was full of gunk. Since then, the lock has been engaging much easier.

Do you let the lock engage on its own? Or do you hold the pin out until you get the boards in the position you want?

I let it do it on it's own

Mine were not locking by them selves had a look and holes were full of grease (over lubricated )

How did you clean them? Did you have to take it apart?

Following up on this thread. The pin was worn and needed to be replaced. I was surprised by this and will use great care when rotating the racks from now on (meaning holding the pin out until the rack is in position, then releasing it)

Interesting. Thanks for the updates on your threads. Definitely sorry you're having these issues and hope I don't follow suit, but it's nice to know what you've figured out or done to resolve them.

Where did you buy your replacement pin? I have the same problem and I have cleaned out the hole but that didn't help so I think my pin may be worn. I called Bakes and they said no parts are available. Also how do you get the rack apart to remove the locking pin? I tried removing the screws at each end of the swivel pin but only one comes loose and the other stays tight. I might try screwing in a longer bolt with a jam nut on one end to try and keep the pin from turning so I can loosen the other end.

No idea. My dealer took care of it for me. Sorry...
