Don't know if you go that far, but the bridge (174) on the Kimball side had a big stump that washed down. Was just under the water level 2 weeks ago. Might be able to fit under the bridge trusses now, but if you go around, watch for that.

There are huge Texas snakes in those waters

Every couple years I hear that story about someone who wiped out into a ball of water moccasins on the Brazos. I have never seen a ball of snakes but that would be the end of me.

We had a big one come at a downed surfer when we were down there. We assume the snake thought he was a log or something to hide in... Big 6ft moccasin snake came straight at him, we started yelling from inside the boat, it came within a few feet. It wasn't till he slapped the surfboard on the surface of the water and made a ruckus that the snake turned away.

The struggle is real.

That's what I hate about moccasins. If it floats, they want to ride on it.

When we canoe the local creeks, the moccasins will swim over to the canoe and make a valiant try to get in with us. You have to learn to remain calm so you can aim correctly when cracking their spines with the paddle. If you panic, you only increase his chance of success.

I've never seen a ball of them, though.

I was just telling my co-worker about a water moccasin coming from the shore to our downed skier the other day.  This was on the San Bernard, where it comes close to the Brazos.

I yelled to the skier, hold on, we are going !  Thankfully, she did just that.
