China is hedging its financial stake in the US by preparing the battlespace.

Firstly, they will use cyber-terror to glean state and private intellectual properties and secrets.

Secondly, they will use their territorial interests in the South China sea to foment small scale wars and regime changes in their hemisphere.

Pending these victories their conventional army will crush our pre-WW2 standing army to death in any future global conflict.

That means that the debt we owe them is now costing us 5-ish % more. I think you misunderstand. Debt held by China, in terms of what we owe, which is in dollars, is irrelevant to (to America) what China does to the value of its currency. The biggest issue with China devaluing its currency, is that it now takes more yuan to buy a dollars' worth of goods thus affecting the price of China's imports and actually makes Chinese imports cheaper, which is the reason they did it, to shore up their economy. However, some would argue that's not a bad thing given the yuan is up 35% against the dollar the last 10 years. If China decided to unload its Us treasury holdings, they actually COST themselves by devaluing the currency. However, If China did start to unload, reduced value or not, our cost of money does go up, leading to higher rates here. However, China only holds about 6-7% of our debt. People seem to think they "own" us. Hardly the case.

Very true, the majority of our debt is to ourselves. The china thing is just used in fear mongering

Stock market is like a roller coaster, you won't make anything unless you are willing to stay on the ride. Dow closed at 16643 today, amazing how it came back. Also ironic the news media turns into crickets reporting how it came back, they always hunt for the doom and gloom stories. Last week it was plastered all over every channel when it took a dive.

So if you stayed on the coaster and did not jump off throw your arms back up in the air...show me da money! :-)
