New hubs get hot

My old hubs kept loosing bearing buddies?

I bought 2 new Vortex hubs.

Called Tie Down Engineering with axle part number to match up.

Tapered spindle.

All went on ok, new hub seemed solid no wobble.

Came pre greased.

Went around the block, not 10 miles, and under 50 mph and the hubs are warm!

Tires looked good, no wobble, no noise.

Any idea on what I did wrong?

Only thing I can think of is the nut is on too tight.

I tighten pretty good, but then back it off and put the cotter pin on?

Thanks Crew, as always!

Warm or hot? Big difference. They will always be warm but you should easily be able to keep your hand on them. I check mine about every two hours on a trip, they are always warm but can easily keep my hand on it

Although with such a short distance traveled someone might be able to provide some better input.

Warm, not hot. You could keep your hand on no issues.

But warmer than my old ones.

I've seen hot and you don't have to go far to get smokin!

Maybe I'm ok?

These were Vortex hubs, loosened the nut about 1/2 a rotation and put 20 highway miles on.

Just barely warmer than room temp. I added a few squirts of grease too.

I'll be out at our pond later this week which is 32 miles one way.

May need another 1/4 turn, but should be ok.

Thanks all.
