Malibu for Surfing

Is the surf wave on the 2015 T22 and A22 the same as on the VLX & LSV?

I agree with all of the above and would throw the Axis T22 in the mix as well. Axis now has the 5 year warranty as well...

I think the T22 and T23 would similar to the VLX and LSV. But the Malibu boats have the added adjustability of the power wedge to change the shape of the wave.

To the OP, another note on Malibu warranty, I have always had a great outcome with warranty claims. I can't recall once with three Malibu boats that a warranty claim I submitted was denied.

I am not saying these are perfect boats, but overall each Malibu I have owned in the past 5 years had very little problems with them. We run them hard and they always seem to hold up well.

If I was going to buy a surf specific boat in the Malibu lineup I would go with the 23 lsv. I do think the vlx is a close runner up, but imo the 23 lsv takes the win for best surf wave in the malibu line without being crazy big like the 25 lsv. The Axis lacks power wedge which I like for wakeboarding and surfing to fine tune the wake, along with the lift feature in new pw2.

Hey Bama, I thought you didn't surf?? ;-)

Amyway... the 23 LSV seems to get the job done.

I actually did it!! Had a forum member (Robsmalibu) come out and teach me a little. I'll admit, it was fun. My legs were burning! I also realize that my X2 surf wave was crap. LOL Stock T22 is better...can't wait to get my 750s in.

At our condo complex we surfed behind my 15 vlx, mc x-25, 13 vlx, and 14 super air 230, all agreed vlx was nicest wave, nothing nutty on set up usually 6-8 in boat stock ballast with 550 pnp's 10.4-11 mph. That being said fit and finish on the super air by far the best, warrantee mine has several qc issues, frankly I think who ever rigged mine was the culprit dealer fixed everything with out issue. I had leaky wedge at through hull, top deck and hull not sealed correctly leaked when surfing pressuring water at rub rail, shower was improperly installed, several hose clamps were loose, hole was drilled in front ballast tank fill hose, trailer brakes leaked, surf horn bolts fell off, G4 tower took a 250 lb person to pull down, stitching was pulling on seat cushions, several rub marks on hull from shipping cover.

That being said still had the best wake and everyone loved the boat, the rough water ride was very good, Bimini with board storage is great, dealer can make all the difference when it comes to decision for me for any major purchase, my dealer is both nautique and Malibu.

So you have no bags at all in the T22 right now? Just stock hard tanks?

Bama, welcome to the "old guys rule" surf club...I'm going out on teamerickson's boat next month, looking forward to riding behind the T22! Actually, there are a few other crew members going as well :-)

And the 2014 LSV and beyond has the new hull design....correct?

And does it truly matter if you have the 350 engine vs. the big boy...assuming the upgraded prop is installed??

Yeah, 2014 and 2015 LSV have the same hull; however the wedge is 20% larger on the 2015.

Engine choice depends on your elevation and how much weight you run. If you are at sea level and you stick to factory 550 sacs for plug n play, then 350 is great. If you wanna run heavy (e.g. the Wakemakers sacs, bow sac, etc) and/or you operate at high elevation, then I think you're gonna want a 409 minimum.

Edit: engine choice is a highly charged topic on this forum. So consider what I just said as my OPINION (after owning both a '14 and a '15 LSV running heavy).

I LOVE how my LS3 sounds when I accelerate into a turn! I discovered this wonderful sound just this past weekend. I'm sure the neighbors on the lake were shaking their heads wondering why I was driving in circles all evening...

The 2015 will also have new dash, along with power wedge 2 which on top of being 20% larger has a single hydraulic actuator and a lift feature to help boat plane out quicker for wakeboarding. The 2014 dash has some unfavorable reviews, it does work but not even close to a 15 dash imho.

my 15vlx after having run with a 350 it never powered out with a 2315 prop at 1500ft elevation, 2419 would be even more aggressive if you needed, just no top end I was 37mph at 5500 rpm. Edited by catalac

Just out of curiosity, how are you weighting your vlx in the above scenarios?
