distributor part number?

Recommended Posts

I have a 1990 Sunsetter with the 350 Mercruiser, and I'm needing to locate the part number on my distributor. I'm wanting to change over to the Pertronix ignition, and I believe I ordered the wrong one. I could not find a part number on the distributor, so I went with what looked like the most common while I was searching the forums, and ordered the MC-181 kit, and it does not line up. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

A pic of the cap should let us know whether it's a mallory or prestolite. I got mine long ago but think i went by the engine serial #. Overtons has Sierra part #18-52962 and lists the engine serial #'s for which it works if you have a Mallory distributor.

I can get a picture tonight when I get home from work. It is held on by two flat head screws, each on opposite sides of the distributor.

2 screws should be prestolite, which means the pertronix kit should be this one:

IGNITOR II, PRESTOLITE SCREW DOWN CAP

1987 and up Prestolite screw down cap distributors (2 screws only with no clips). Kit uses stock cap and rotor (not included). Pertronix recommends using the "Flame Thrower II" coil Item #110510 with this kit (Eliminates the need for external resistance).

Which translates to Pertronix part number 91582 for the Ignitor 2 kit

and 1582 for the ignitor kit
