Fuel line counter?

The fuel gauge accuracy on my 01 SSVLX is pretty atrocious anywhere below 75%, thinking about putting an in-line fuel counter. I believe my tank is 120L, anyone else tackled this? Would take the guess work out of those late surf sessions..

I think you're OK in '01, but if there is a fuel return line from the injector HP rail to the tank then a fuel flow gauge isn't going to help. (there isn't a way to account for fuel return back to the tank)

Also, if you're going to modify a fuel line, make sure you know the rules/regulations on marine fuel systems. Since your post says 120L I have to assume you're not in the USA, so USCG regulations may not apply...

Thanks for the link, I may opt to try that first instead of messing with fuel lines. You're right, I'm Canadian I'll see if I can track down a sender unit in Canada, it can be a headache importing from the USA

I would think that any fuel injected engine should have a fuel return line. That is an interesting point when doing the fuel calculation.

I don't remember exactly what boat it was, but I think it was an '06 VLX with a 350 (owned by a family member) that didn't have a return line on the HP rail. IIRC fuel injection can be done as "constant pressure" or "constant volume", the constant volume method would need a return, but constant pressure would only deliver what is needed by the engine.

Back to the OP's 2nd issue (importing): maybe a local dealer can source the unit for you from their distributor? Also, West Marine has retail locations on your side of the border and appears to have the kit, so that might be an option:
