Fuel Screen on '04 RLXI (Monsoon 340)

Recommended Posts

2004 Malibu Response LXI with Monsoon 340 engine. I am getting hesitation when I start up from a stopped position. It's not bad, but its giving the less experienced riders problems getting up (and annoying the heck out of me). Once I'm moving everything is all good. Intend on replacing the fuel filter, but don't recall every cleaning the mesh "screen" that is supposed to be near the fuel pump. Can anybody shed where this screen is located? I'll see if I can get some pictures of the fuel pump area up here in a minute...

I have the same boat / engine combo (and love it!).

The silver, vertically oriented device in the black clamp is the pump and the screen should be inside the bottom, fuel inlet port. Assuming you have always kept the in-line filter replaced and in good condition, I imagine it's unlikely that the pump inlet would be blocked. Additionally, if the engine otherwise runs well at consistent high / full throttle there is not likely any restriction to fuel flow. FWIW, I've never checked mine.

Maybe check cap / rotor / plugs but, again, if it runs sweetly at all other settings you would think they're OK. At least they're quick and easy to check. Numerous owners have found very bad corrosion and contamination inside the distributor cap. Mine is still like brand new. I've changed the plugs once just because I felt like it.

If the problem is persistently repeatable at the same point, maybe the throttle position sensor (TPS) is dodgy...?

Thanks for the possible issues Green Man i'll check them all out.

The boat is def nice, but as an avid wakeboarder, it may be time to see if the wifey will let me upgrade to a wakeboard boat...
