Malibu that sank?

Recommended Posts

I saw this on Instagram (wakeboatporn) and was wondering if anyone here had seen it and had any information about what happened? All that I really saw through reading the comments was that there was a bad storm. I think that they said that it was at Kelowna?

Funny how many 'likes' that picture got!

About 'wakeboarporn' I don't know if many others follow them but they post so often I couldn't handle it and unfollowed them after just a few weeks.

We don't get storms that big here in Kelowna, but it is definitely okanagan lake just of peachland, there has been a lot of boats swamped by overloading the sacks, or maybe ogoopogo sank it lake monsters don't like rap music

I'd bet there is lead in that boat. Malibu's don't sink like that. They stay at the surface and tend to stay flat.

...was lead in that boat.

At that angle, unless it was fastened in, anything that could sink is at the bottom. Bummer, that will ruin a season.

From the looks of it the boat was tied up to its mooring when the storm rolled in. If you go on instagram and go to the guy that originally posted it (@brianbarnesified), he is the owner of the Supra in the pic. Said there was a massive storm that rolled in on Lake Okanagan the night before, and that the pickle fork bow allowed it to get swamped. Wakeboard is still in the rack!

If moored my guess is it may have hit bottom and stopped sinking.

In guessing more than that. Malibu's sink to the gunnels. Windshields typically are still out of the water. They have enough flotation built into them that when they sink they don't go to the bottom. They just go below the surface.

I agree, there's definitely lead or pop bags hidden somewhere in that boat for it to go down that far.

For a second, the mountains looked like a huge wave about to crash down on them.

Hills in the background gave me an illusion of a freak wave rolling in. Poor bloke, hope he gets another mal and not much out of pocket.

Do you guys thing a boat company will ever make a boat that can handle getting sunk like this? Seems kinda strange to me that there are so many parts in a boat that are not "water proof".

Scary photo! When I see things like this, I just hope no one was injured. Although tragic, you just hope they had good insurance.
