12v pump recommendation

Looking for a 12v pump to use in the boat or my wife's car to blow up paddleboards. Preferably something with a cigarette lighter type plug on it. Any recommendations for something that works decent and will last?

how many psi do you need for a paddleboard?

my experience has been that the "clamp on the battery" style is much more powerful. I've just snipped off the clamps and put a male plug on the pump and hardwired a female plug end (with appropriate sized wire and a fuse) into the boat. No reason you couldn't do that in the car (but I understand not wanting to too).

This is the one we are using this year: http://www.bassdistributing.com/Marine/airhead-air-pig-pump-12v-AHP12AP

had the similar overtons one for the prior 5 seasons before it gave out.

We only use them to fill tubes, so not sure about whether they have enough mojo to get the paddleboards up to their final psi, but it'd at least do well filling the first 95% and then you could top off with a hand pump.

Paddleboards are around 15psi. Only reason I don't want the alligator style is that my wife needs to use it with her car as well and she would not be willing to clamp to the battery (safer for everyone). Lighter plug would be her level of comfort.

I'll take a look at that one. In my searching, the better ones come with a psi cutout setting.

right. What I'm saying is hardwire in a different receptacle that's wired to handle the draw. a neutrik connector can flushmount in the car and not look too out of place.

I have one of these, and it's great. Blows up large items quickly, and small enough to keep in the glovebox in the boat!

:plus1: I have this pump and it works great, just usually add a few breaths to top things off a little firmer. I doubt your gonna get anywhere close to 15psi on any hi-flow 12volt air pump.

We have something like that for air mattresses, but it doesn't put out enough pressure to be used with a paddleboard.

I think we're just going to order one of these:

Seems to be the exact same one that Tower is private labelling - just not worth the extra $30 for the less ugly color ;)

I bought one of these:

http://www.colemancanada.ca/product/water-resistant-12v-quickpump/2000011966?contextCategory=06#.VdAEg6a9LCQ

It works really well, is very fast and powerful, is a cig lighter plug and even comes with battery clamps if need be. It's also water resistant. I liked how it will deflate the item. Helps to get all the air out.
