prop or trans slip?

Recommended Posts

So I noticed the other night when I really jump on the boat out of the hole, the revs go up but the boat doesn't thrust much. I can't remember if the boat ever really threw me in my seat. But when I go into gear, bring it to 1000 rpms, then go say half to 3/4 throttle, the lunges to 3500-4000 rpm but slowly accelerates. Well, not slow slow, but definitely seems like the prop is not biting or the transmission is slipping.

What do your boats do? My old I/O when throttled up would hold around 2500 rpms as the boat accelerated then the rev would climb. This seems to jump and hold those revs until the boat goes, then very little change in revs.

Run four or five good throttle dumps and stop and check your trans fluid temp. I would think if you are slipping the temp would rise quickly. But I have no experience with the bigger boats. Factors = Prop, weight, and even water temp will influence but I think you know it. Also smell your trans fluid if she is slipping I think you will get a burnt smell and discoloration.
