Exile once again...

Recommended Posts

wakebrdr94

Finally had a chance to get moving on my stereo install, and doing exile once again. Need to get it done before our week trip next Thursday. Ordered stereo delete and running off of the ZLD with Bluetooth and an apple air port for wifi..

4 6.5" cabing

4 8" cabin

2 pair SXT9Q

Xi 12 DVC sub

ZLD

Javelin to push the cabins and sub

XM 30.2 to push the towers

Day 1, got all the speakers in (except walk through, those may wait to save time) Tower speakers up, and amp board carpeted and layed out (thank you IXFE and FMan for the amp board dimensions). Tomorrow start wiring, build a housing for the ZLD, and make something to fill that empty void on the amp board...

looks great! don't bother with the walkthrough speakers. They are an absolute waste. If you do this instead you will actually be able to hear the speakers (in stereo even!):

Interested to know what type of enclosure you are going with and if that Sub will keep up with the rest of speakers in the boat.

Looks good!

12d will keep up just fine and proper in a sealed or ported enclosure. Off a Javelin I would opt for ported.

I see the boat is at Tilly's. Are they doing the install? If so, what's the quality of their work? May I also ask about your preference to Exile over Wet sounds?

Nice work, wakebrdr... I ran that same recipe last year and it might just be my favorite.

Your sub enclosure looks sick.

Nice install! And I agree with Shawn, those walk thru speakers dont seem to do much.

I still would like to see what the boat looks like :-) congrats on the new vlx... it is a dang nice boat!

Seems hard to get the time to get stuff done. Got power wires sodered, RCA's ran to under the dash, went under the floor vs going around the bow. Amp board done, made an acrylic exile sign and have it back lit, just to eat up some room on the board. Hopefully tomorrow I can get all the speakers connected, connect to perko and battery, and give it a test run... My sons b day party is tomorrow, so we will see if I actually get that accomplished

One thing I did notice when I was going through wiring was one said "bling light" and was not connected. Apparently my 22VLX badge on the side of the boat is not lighted. I guess I might as well get an LED in that since they didn't at the factory...

I like this idea, but that walkway speaker looks like an ankle slicer.... any issues with people hitting there ankle on it?

Not yet! I did this same thing on my MB too (though with polk mm651um speakers, not the rockford cheese graters) and never had a problem.

The one thing I will say after spending some time on the water with this setup is that if you can fit the 8s there, do that instead. When really cranking these 6.5s will still get overpowered just a bit by the 8s in the cabin (even after balancing with the gains).

I believe the illuminated side logo comes with either the underwater lights on the dock lights... can't remember which.

I also noticed the wire hanging down inside my boat and wondered how easy it would be to add the actual lights.

The light itself won't be hard to add, I removed the bolts holding on the light, just have to drill a super tiny hole to run the wiring through, won't be tough

Finally had a chance to get some work done today, need a break with a cold beverage, so here is some progress. Got things wired, amp board mounted, and sound. No to finish up the ZLD side....

Wired the power switch to the heater seat fuse, pretty sure that's not in use ...

We have sound!

The light looks better than the camera is capturing, I'll get a photo when it gets darker...

I have the LED docking lights, it must be on the underwater lights. When I wire it up I will tie into the docking lights, I think it would be cool to have them come on together. Need to start looking around for a small LED strip to go behind the 22 VLX.

I'm going to tie them to the nav lights, so they are on at night always

Looks fantastic! And makes me jealous... I wish I'd stuck to "the recipe" by going stereo delete this year like I've done in the past.

I can't remember... was this a stereo delete boat to start with? Also, why did you get the sport knob? I almost never use mine.

About the only thing we use sport knob for is wave transfers for the gates, other than this it does not get much use. Looks cool tho!

use the sport knob for wave tranfers and speed control mainly. I think when you order the boat, you're almost compelled to get it
