Cousin bought a '91. Engine has no vacuum advance connected or choke heater. Normal? Motor not completely original.

There is no vacume advance, there are weights in the distributor to advance the spark, ( old school works great ) as for the choke if you look on the drivers side of the carb you will see a small rod going to the intake manifold, there should be a small steel cover at the bace of the choke rod and in it there is a coil spring. When the manifold heats up the spring expands and the choke opens. There is some adjustment on the carb

A lot of engine builders block the heat port on the intake and the choke will not work right. If there is no choke just get a manual choke cable and attach it to the engine open the engine cover pull it on and puch it off when it warms up

Thanks for the quick reply.He had the boat at the lake for the last two weeks. Ran great, 900 hrs on clock but he/we have no idea how much work was done on engine.
