2004 340 Monsoon replacement question

Recommended Posts

Going to do some more troubleshooting but pretty sure I broke a rod during start up - due to water in #5. Tried starting boat last night and it made some pretty good banging noises followed by not turning over at all now. I pulled the plugs and #5 had water run out of it (it was under pressure when I pulled the plug). I'm almost positive the water is from a failed block off gasket on the exhaust manifolds or a cracked manifold (closed cooling). Long story short if the lower end is damaged then I'm probably not going to mess with rebuilding it. For the head ache I can get a long block SBC 383 stroker and as far as I know all the top end (intake and distributor) should bolt on. Has anyone went this route? I'm not one to replace anything with what has already failed and who doesn't what a little more torque in their boat!!! Plus I like to say I have an extra 50+ HP also...Thoughts?

The swap would be worth looking into further if the LSV with the 383 uses the the same transmission with the 340.

Mine has the 1:1 ZF 45 C transmission with the 340 which has a max input rating of 378 HP and 530 torque.
