Neutral Safety Switch - where is it?

Recommended Posts

Boat would not start today after driving it to the gas dock - 2003 Wakesetter VLX.

I ended up starting it with a screwdriver on the starter jumping the pins on the solenoid.

I know it has to be the key switch or the neutral safety switch.

I pulled out the Morse control, but I could not find any wires hooked to it anywhere. I looked up the manual for the control and it shows wires? I am on my phone, but I will upload a photo when I get to the house. Where is this mystery switch?

I had a similar incident and found my throttle cable hooked to the transmission housing had come off the linkage. Since the cable slipped off, the transmission was in gear even though the throttle was in the neutral position. My cable has a spring loaded connector on the end which simply had to be re-attached to the linkage which solved my problem....boat fired right up. Hope this helps

I ordered a new switch. Mine is located on the transmission.

Here are the DIY instructions:

Take off the air filter and unclip the throttle cable. You can then remove the 2 bolts (9/16th) from the ECM housing and pull it out enough to get to the screws on the neutral safety switch with a long screw driver. Remove the screws and let them drop wherever they fall. I think one slipped into the bell housing through a hole and the other is somewhere in the bilge. I taped the leads together and sure enough it still wouldn't start. When the new switch comes in I can conveniently drive around with it and try to find new screws to fit the old part.

Anyway, I pulled the ignition switch from the dash and messed with it some more and the boat started. So the problem was the ignition switch.
