2001 sportster of fuel pump?

Recommended Posts

So my fuel pump is whining again. Replaced three years ago. Seems to run fine but oil pressure gauge bounces sometimes. Cleaned screen at inlet, no better. Replaced filter near shutoff and whining stopped for about 5 seconds and then started again. Is there another filter or screen somewhere or is my pump going? Thanks

The fuel pump whines because it's sucking air. This is caused by a clogged filter, screen, anti-Siphon valve or often quite simply a bad seal from a hose clamp. Change or check the filter again, the clamps and the line. Pressurize the tank if need be to get solid fuel up to the pump too.

Prime the pump a few times and try again.
