04 vlx 340 monsoon where is the fresh water intake screen?

Recommended Posts

Sorry guys, I know this info is posted on many threads but when I look at my boat it just doesn't make sense to me...

I have an overheating problem in rough water 2 footers after about 30 min of driving at 2500 rpm....

I want to check the raw water screen or tranny cooler that people refer to but I cant find it...

On my boat there is a hole in the bottom of the boat on the port side of center just forward of the driveshaft that has a little hood on it... inside the boat there is a ballcock valve connected to this hole, the hose runs from the ballcock valve to the top of the v-drive, then it crosses through the v drive and runs through a hose to the back of the boat and into the raw water pump... after the raw water pump the hose runs to the port rear corner of the engine bay and curves up into the engine water pump.... it tees off once before the water pump. from that point it circulates through the engine...

First of all, the intake grate and ball valve should be on the starboard side, run through the vdrive, and to the raw water pump on the port side. If there's a Tee in there then it's probably for a heater. If you pull that bottom hose off the tranny cooler and find pieces of anything (most likely black rubber) clean it out, pull the impeller, flush the lines, reinstall tranny hose, and install a new impeller.
