speedometer

Recommended Posts

cruising back to the ramp on lake austin last night when i noticed the speedometer was at 0.0. - both on ecm and needle gauge (rpms continued to display properly)

just a few minutes earlier it was working just fine.

there has been quite a bit of junk in the water - chopped up hyrdilla (that nasty weed -- keeps getting caught on my surfboard fins!) and the occasional twig, branch, small log, etc due to the thunderstorms.

thinking perhaps something hit the speedo sensor on the hull - i did hear a bump on the hull before it went out - but didn't look at the dash right away - not sure if it was related or just a coincidence... could have jarred something loose below.

does anyone know what is should be looking for on the bottom of the boat?

thanks!

The paddle wheel for the speedo is pretty fragile in the scheme of things. You can unscrew the whole assembly from the right side of the engine on the floor (at least on my VLX anyway). It's the black plastic cap with a big arrow on it. You'll be able to tell right away if the wheel is missing fins or there is something jammed in there.
