fender cleats

Hey guys, After looking at all the new models, one of my favorite features are those push pin fender holders. I would like to add some to my 13 VLX, just wondering everyone's experience. The stock ones are very expensive but i found a few options.

I think the one that replicates stock is the most elegant, but the spring loaded popup cleats seem interesting as well. The cheapest ones from attwood seem like they would work though may end up really scratching the gel. Anybody have experience adding any of these.

The ones by CP Performance look and work well. I don't have them but have seen them in action.

I have had the ones from Bakes. They get scratched and don't look so hot after a while.

Thanks man, i figured as much. I also kinda like the idea of the popup ones because it wouldn't mean a bit of metal hanging off the end of a fender whip. i feel like a wrong move, throwing a fender in haste could lead to some interior gel damage.

And, even if you have stock cleats a lot of times it is impossible to get the bumpers high enough. It's great if the boat/object you are tying to is the exact height where it is fine to not be exactly on the rub rail (below the rub rail on the hull. It is also an issue if you have to hang on the cleats and tie off to them. The stock cleats aren't huge. I have had lines come undone because we were approaching the limit of rope on the cleat (not because I'm bad at tying up)

I was writing a reply and then re-read it and finally understand what you're saying...the stock cleats are TOO SMALL for multiple lines.

Tip for you. Don't tie off at the cleat. Use a loop that goes through the cleat and around and tie off to the dock. That is why manufactured mooring lines have a loop at one end.

99% of the time my cleats only hold fenders; ideally the mooring line starts at my tower (instead of a boat cleat), goes to a dock cleat, then gets looped through the transom U bolt then to a 2nd dock cleat. The only time my mooring line is tied to my cleats is when we are tying up or when there are no dock cleats, only a place to loop a line.

My cleats always hold a bumper and a mooring line, but both are just looped up through and around - neither is tied to the cleat.

The fender lines are 1/4" fender line

Mooring line is a 3/8 manufactured line from these guys:
