BoatUS Towing Policy?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have experience with BoatUS and their towing policy?

I am thinking of purchasing for one year to use during an upcoming trip to Lake Powell (BoatUS says they have agreements with both Bullfrog and Halls). My houseboat has a bad engine or drive, so it is currently limited to one engine. I am concerned that the bad drive may be due to improper drive service at the beginning of the year, and am leary of going out with only one engine that also had that same service.

The policy is $75 for a year, and covers up to $2500 in towing expenses.

Sure would appreciate any feedback on BoatUS.

I didn't think Progressive offered on-water towing? I tried a claim with them on my last boat and was told they cover if it is on the trailer, but not on the water (seems stuipd to me).

Either way, I doubt the coverage would be $2500, but will check.

My Malibu policy is with Progressive. Will have to check on the towing. But I got a little side tracked. More concerned about the houseboat. Will check towing on that as well, but I don't even remember who that policy is with.

My policy with State Farm covered a tow when i had to be pulled about 20 miles up the lake by a regular towing service.

I paid a deductible (maybe $100) of about a $500 towing charge.

Won't your Wakesetter tow your houseboat if your houseboat breaks down?

I would be comfortable towing a little ways with the Wakesetter, but not very far. And I'm not sure how it would manuever it back into the docks.

If I had the policy, I would be more comfortable getting a little further away from the marina.

I have progressive and I have their tow policy. But it has a $300 limit. I recently needed a tow and the towing company quoted me $250 an hour with a two hour minimum. So even with the policy I would be out $200. I ended up going with SeaTow. It was $119 for 14 months. They cover my boat and waverunner and with 4 kids driving on a new lake it seems like a good investment that I'm hoping not to need.
