Heavy driver washing out wave?

Our set up is full MLS (excluding port side), 750 Wakemaker in the surf side locker, crew of 3-4, plus 100 pounds of lead and gear (anchor, chain, etc) under the port side seats. Wedge all the way down.

My father in law is 230 pounds, each time he drives the wave washes out over the lip. This weekend is was pretty bad, I had him move to the observer seat and let my wife drive (110 pounds), and it cleaned up right away.

Does that counter weight alter the wave that much?

In my experience yes. If he is driving have him move toward the center of the boat. I only weigh 185 and I can throw the wave off on the port side. It gets significantly better when I move to the middle.

Yes every little bit of weight makes a difference. I have even been known to drive from the observer seat from time to time in order to clear up or increase the wake.
