Determining boat hours on Echelon with failed Computron

I'm considering purchasing a 94' Echelon with a failed Computron. The buyer says the hours on the boat are unknown. I assume this is from a failed Computron but not 100%. Is there a way to read the hours on an engine directly from the motor. I believe it is an EFI . thanks for any help.

I had a '93 Eschelon and everything on the engine was mechanical; I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think that EFI was an option until at least '95 but I don't know the specs of all the engines available. A list is in the manual here:

There wasn't any electronic component on the engine; there were electrical sensors (water temp, oil pressure, etc.) but no MEFI controller or OBD computer.

Thanks for the pdf manual. Looks like the hour meter is displayed through the Computron.

They made a 454mpfi that year, the hours should be available on the ECM.

More importantly, do a compression test, and general once over. Really low hours can be just as bad as really high hours.

I had a 94 Echelon LX with the 350 Magnum, no EFI. The computron reset the hour meter almost every time I took it out the first 3 years so had no idea on the actual hours. Once Malibu replaced the computron it never had another problem. Traded it in after 18 years. What a great boat.
