Not sure my riding spot would be anywhere close to that gator. Cool picture though.

So glad I don't have to worry about gators or water moccasins grabbing ahold of my leg anymore!

Would not find me near that in the water. Nasty creatures. Unfortunately we've had to deal with them even up here in the north woods.

**shudders** Raccoons. **shudders**

Been skiing in Florida since I was 6 or 7 years old, they are more afraid of us, than we are of them. Alligators just swim away (as long as you are not near a nest).

Geez, and waterskier eating gator stories are so common.

I've riden on a couple different Florida lakes over about 4 yrs, never saw one.

It's the ones you don't see, Bill. Those are the ones you need to worry about.

Don't you watch Discovery Channel?

Yep, seen lots of stories about wakeboarders eaten by gators.

Taste like chicken!

Good thing surfers don't think about sharks

Saw that story on the news yesterday.

Hit 2 giant racoons in one week last month ... caused lots of damage to the car.

Mostly they seem to chew on the buoys.

Yep...alligators will not mess with you.

I defy any of you to find a story of a waterskier hurt by an alligator. They are ambush hunters. They don't stalk things. What you don't want to do is be messing around near the shoreline...which you are supposed to be 100' away from anyway.

Everytime I took a guest new to boating out, they always ask the same thing..."Are there Alligators in this lake?" Right in front of their kids. I always said "No, they keep all the alligators out of these lakes".

Then, after the day was done, I'd ask them if they want to go find an alligator. Usually took about 10 minutes or so to find a couple. There are alligators in every lake in Florida.

You have to know where to look...and seek them out....they are not floating all over in the middle of the lakes chasing downed water skiers to have a snack. And they won't mess with anything they perceive as being bigger than themselves...unless you are slogging along on the shoreline and come across their nest...then they will generally try to chase you away.

They like red, so don't were it. :)

I've always wanted to foot with the gators and did get to last year. Daughter skied a few times and then got on the dock. 20 ft away was a nice little gator, we told her it was just weeds. The weeds sank as we got closer. :)

Now crocs, no thank you.

I think we have bigger fish in our river than any gator. Channel cats and Sturgeon. :)
