Do boat mechanics have longer arms? (bow eye removal)

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have any tricks to remove the bow eye on a 2008 Wakesetter 23 LSV? It is accessible from the cup holder area in the bow but it is way back in there. It would be a blind removal if I could even reach it, which I cant. Do boat mechanics just have longer arms than boat owners?

Thanks for your help

In my VTX it was a reach. I removed the front ballast tank and reached up to get to it. Just used a normal length flex head gear wrench to get to the nuts

At the factory the bow eye is installed before the floor and upper hull are assembled, it's installed as part of the "underwater gear" rigging station. The guys at the factory don't have longer arms, but they do have less in the way when putting the bow eye in; the mechanics have to get creative if it needs to be removed for any reason.

Be careful with the bow eye, it's one of 3 lifting points for the boat so if it's loose and there is significant stress (lifting) done with it the gelcoat and fiberglass could suffer severe damage.

Did the ramp n clamp work? Thinking of putting.one in our boat

Not for me. In order to get my boat to engage it I would have to be willing to have my wife powerload the boat hard or put the trailer in far enough that it was difficult to get it on straight and risk hitting the post on the side. Didn't really prove useful for me so I removed it and resold it.
