Expandable rubber plug for freeze plug?

I popped out my freeze plug near the starter last fall to make sure I drained the engine for winter. I was thinking about replacing it with a Dorman expandable rubber plug as you can install it and remove it without R&Ring the starter. Anyone else do this?

I thought the freeze plugs (round disc just under two inches in diameter?) were more or less permanently pounded into the block and not to be removed?

The casting plugs? Yea, you can take them out but there usually isnt a good reason to do so. I would not replace with a rubber plug unless it was a last resort.

Any reason not to just use the drains on the side of the block?
