Lake LBJ/Marble Falls

Headed down to Lake LBJ and Lake Marble Falls this weekend. Any of the crew live down there?

What are some local things/food/etc we should check out? We usually just stay on the water, but might branch out this time.

Been down there a few times, it's tough to get good water since the entire lake (lbj) has sea walls, hit it really early or really late for wakeboarding and up in the river is your best bet. Never been on Marble Falls but looks way more promising. I'd probably just stay there and not even jump on LBJ unless your looking for a tie-up/party.

My mom lives in Marble Falls. Say hi if you see her.

Haha...will do :innocent:

We used to go many times a year, but always stayed in Horseshoe Bay. Trips up the river were LONG! Hopefully the rain will stay away for a few days. :(

Just sold my little place at Horseshoe Bay last October. My wife, daughter, and I are gonna stay at that La Quinta on the hill overlooking Lake Marble Falls this weekend (I still slip my boat at LBJ Yacht Club & Marina, next to the dam).

Cooper's BBQ in Llano is a great place for lunch or dinner, if you're up for a little drive. Expect to wait in line once you get there, but its definitely worth the trip if you're in the mood for juicy brisket or an extraordinary pork chop.

Locally, though, we usually hit Julie's Cocina, in Cottonwood Shores (on 2147 on the way to HSB from 281), after a morning ski for some juevos rancheros. Pretty decent fajitas, as well, if you go for lunch or dinner.

On the Rocks, right above Wirtz Dam, has an outside bar and live music Friday & Saturday, and its a great place to watch the sunset if you're not still out on the boat. I've eaten some good meals there, too, but they haven't gotten the consistency thing nailed down, so I can't necessarily recommend eating dinner there.

In Marble Falls, we've been to Doc's Fish Camp & Grill (at intersection of 281 & 431) many times. Better seafood, though not exactly great, than you might expect from a dinky little town.

Another regular haunt for us is the River City Grille, overlooking lake Marble Falls. Pretty good food there, and you can sit out on the balcony if its not too hot (Chili's, if you'd prefer, is right next door, and also offers the view and the optional outdoor dining).

I've enjoyed a nice burger, with beer on tap, at the Double Horn Brewing Company, and I'll definitely go back.

Many folks like the Blue Bonnet Cafe for breakfast, but there's always a crazy line, and, frankly, its not worth the wait, IMHO. Pretty good pies though.

If you want a break from the lake in the mid-afternoon heat, a drive out to Longhorn Cavern State Park is an option. I've been there a couple of times (cave tour). Pretty amazing how you can start at the top in 90-100 degree weather

and then descend maybe twenty to thirty steps into the mouth and feel the temperature dropping down into the 60s. Tour lasts, IIRC, about an hour and a half.

Enjoy your weekend. I, too, am hoping for a break in the rain.

Wonder if you can go from LBJ to where the Oasis (Lake Travis?) is by boat?

Steve B.

Not even close, they are separate lakes. Oasis sucks and is for out of towners. Locals don't really go there because Austin has much better places to eat. Edited by AJWest
