Just want to make sure my 1999 SS LXI with a Monsoon motor has a roller cam for oil change purposes? I know for sure later models have rollers but can't tell for sure on the older ones.

Thanks

A Monsoon is a straight push rod style engine. Roller cam was on a Hammerhead.

A little curious as well about the question related to oil?? Both style engines use the same spec oil and filter. Hammerhead has a history of using a bit more oil in between changes.

I believe monsoon 5.7L will be rollers. I can tell you the current GM 5.7L is definately a roller.

Monsoon = Vortec 5700 L31 = roller valve train. No special oil necessary.

The only thing different about the engine in your 99 SS LXI vs the current monsoon in a 2015 Malibu is the exhaust manifolds, intake plenum, and tuning.

Great, thanks. Yes, oil related question. Just wanted to make sure I didn't need to worry about zinc levels for a flat tappet cam. I have several old cars and it's a pain to get the right oil for them anymore.
