Amps, do you need a marine amp

I have a normal kicker car amp on my sub and it stopped working. The protect light comes on instead of power light. There is not corrosion, fuses are good, and it's always worked fine before. Has anyone had an issue like this? Is it corrosion inside the amp? Can it be fixed economically?

To answer the title of the thread, not necessarily. Car amps can be used in boats with no issues. Do you have a volt/ohm meter? if so, whats the voltage at the amp power cable terminals? Try disconnecting the sub and then powering up the amp.

There is possibly a short somewhere. Check +/- speaker wires at amp and speakers to see if a strand or two is pulled loose. Do same w pwr wires.
