Battery Storage Question

Each fall I take the batteries out of my boat and store them in my garage. The boat is in a storage unit in Tennessee.

I am wondering if i need to be removing them? Will it hurt them to stay in the boat, just disconnected? I have sport seating, so getting the batteries in and out is a major contortionist move, and i wonder if it is needed?

Where the boat is stored the teams get down in the 20s for periods of time, but it is not severe.

I have left mine in every vehicle I've stored, I just disconnect them in the winter. The 20s, that is cute - it actually gets cold here

How long is the boat stored for the off season? A charged battery will survive the winter, but they do experience a little parasitic draw over time.

It is usually in storage from late October thru April. I have a built in charger, so i could go down for a visit mid-winter and plug it in for a day.

Built in charger? If it is a pro sport or similar smart charger leave it plugged in all winter. Once it's charged, the smart charger keeps the batteries happy.

Install an on-board smart charger. Wire it up once and never open the battery boxes again. Just plug it in when your near power.

Before I did this, I actually had a couple batteries freeze. I know thats not supposed to happen but I swear they were acid slushies....and dead as can be!
