Broken Bow Season Opener trip (vid included)

Good to hear you guys are using Beaver bend Adventures.

May be a long winded story, but I am so wound up I have to get it off my chest.

We had a group of 12 headed to Broken Bow for Memorial Day weekend to celebrate a good friend's wife's 40th birthday. Just yesterday my buddy decided to call the marina to check things out due to all the recent rain. Good thing he did because as we discussed earlier he learned the lake is totally closed and there is no access at all. Of course he went into scramble mode trying to figure out alternative plans to make his wife's birthday on the lake possible. He was able to lock down her Uncle's house on a lake NW of Ft. Worth so he called his rental company, which happened to be Beaver Bend Adventures and explained the situation and asked if he could exchange this weekend rental for a weekend later in the summer due to the fact that the lake was shut down. They happily obliged and said sure, same price, same cabin, same number of nights just tell us when.

So I called my cabin rental agency, Hidden Hills Cabins, and explained the exact same situation. Expressed the fact that I understood their cancelation policy and that it was 14 days and all the red tape, but asked if they could make an exception since we booked this in February and Mother Nature made the lake inaccessible to us and that was the reason for coming. Did not ask for money back, but simply to move our weekend to later in the summer. Not only was I told no, the attitude I received was unbelievable. I calmly and politely told the reservation specialist that the other group had rented from a competitor and they allowed them to move weekends and she said good for them, you should have read our policy. I explained again that I did read them, but thought they may understand our situation. She ultimately hung up on me after I told her I would share this experience with everyone I could. Prior to hanging up her response to me telling her I was going to share my experience was good, go ahead, there are plenty of people out there that love us.

I understand the policy, and was willing to accept the fact that there was a high likelihood I was not going to get money back or allowed to move the reservation, but was in no way prepared to be treated like I was. If I was a cabin owner and this agency represented me, I would be livid if I heard something like this. We own a lake house rental property East of Dallas and have had situations like this on the reverse, with low water levels. Between the time the guest booked the house the water level went down so much that the dock was no longer accessible by boat. Out of courtesy, I contacted the guest and gave them two option, a discounted rate for the same dates reserved because of the change in conditions, or the options to move the dates in hopes the water rises to normal level. It's just the right thing to do.

Sorry for the rant, but I am glad to hear the majority seem to use Beaver Bend Adventures, that is who we usually use but all their cabins were already booked for Memorial Day when we booked. We go out two to three times a summer and I will never use Hidden Hills Cabins again and I hope anyone who reads this makes the same choice.

Yea they were very accommodating with me, was out $25 to change to a different cabin but no big deal. Sry that other company sucked so bad. I'll for sure never use them.

I understood their position, the policy is very clear, but did not expect to get the treatment I got along with the high hard one of losing the $700 rental fee. They would not even refund me the cleaning fee even though we canceled the reservation and told them we are not coming. Kind of felt they might have a little sympathy since the entire lake is shut down, oh well. Lesson learned I guess.
