Tongue Weight

Recommended Posts

Since we are in the throws of trailers and hitch weights, I thought I'd ask this question. What do you guys run for tongue weight, and do you even measure it? I've noticed my current boat tongue weight seems very heavy. I've always been able to lift the tongue on previous boats, probably weighed up to 300# or so. This one, no chance. I always set up a stand of concrete blocks to take the weight off the jack. I sometimes wonder if there was a different trailer design for DD and VD and I got one for a VD which would shift more weight in front of the axles. But here nor there, I am thinking of moving the boat back on the trailer due to this. But how far? I've heard it said you should have 10% of the boat's weight on the tongue with a max 250#. Then I've heard 10% of the boat's weight on the tongue no matter what. Just curious on your thoughts.
