Lockable gas cap for the BU.

I topped off the tank before heading to the lake yesterday. Nearly 30 gallons and $90.00 later the pump finely stopped. Some A-hole Mad.gif siphoned my gas while my boat was in storage this past week. I hope they choked on it.

Does anyone use a locking gas cap or know where I can get one for the BU. I don’t really want to spend $90.00 every time I take the boat out of storage.

I hear you, hapened to me last year. At 1,47$ a liter... Mad.gif I heard that some motorcycle locking gas caps have the same thread but they looked kind of funny because they don't have the same profile. But maybe putting it on when the boat is not attended and taking them off when riding??? Dontknow.gif

I had an alarm installed on my boat when the stereo went in. Do not know if it would be sensitive enough to detect someone siphoning unless they were really careless? Good Luck! KC

The "Push-on locking gas cap" on this page is not bad, would have to see if same thread.Link If someone finds something, this could be a good group buy...

You could install a ball valve in the fill line between the cap and the tank (preferably near the tank). Before you leave the boat, shut the valve. That way someone couldn't get a siphon tube down into the tank. Just remember to open it before fueling or using your boat.

The ball valve sounds like a great idea. Except then you'd p!ss the guy off and he'd end up yanking your gas cap off, dump water and or other stuff down the hole and then slash your vynil just cause you were prick enough to try and prevent him from doing whatever he (or she I guess) wanted!

God I hate thieves!!!!! Mad.gif

You wouldn't have to worry about stuff down into the tank, the ball valve would prevent it. Your point is well taken on the vinyl. A friend of mine had his gas siphoned out while his lsv was in storage. He didn't care about the gas but the gelcoat was damaged from spilled fuel below the fuel fill. The gas had sat on the gelcoat and discolored it if I remember correctly. He had to have it professsionally repaired.

How about fart in the tank before putting on the gas cap. The thief will think your gas has gone bad and will go find another boat... Crazy.gif Or put "DIESEL fuel only" sticker on the tank. It will discourage him and if he is in need of Diesel, at least it will damage his engine. Blowup.gif

I think I'll pass on the "fart in the tank" option... Blowup.gif

I like the diesel fuel sticker idea. Quick fix until I can figure out a long term solution.

This reminds me of a story from last weekend, but first... Be careful of the Diesel fuel only sticker... you pull up to a gas dock and before you know it the dock hand is pumping the thick stuff into your tank!

On a side note I was "power relaxing" this last weekend on Malibu Dreamin when I heard a couple of guys come over the radio and switch to a frequency I often use. So I figured I'd listen in and see what was going on... sometimes you get to overhear some good ones and this was no exception.

Guy 1 is trying to get in contact with his friend to tell him he is going to be late to meeting him. He was just at a local gas dock gassing up his seadoo. Somehow or another they managed to get $139 worth of gas in it - or more specifically they put 40+ gallons of gas into an air vent on the front that looked (I'm guessing) something like a gas filler hole (wtf). So now Guy 1 has 40+ gallons of gas in the bilge area of his seadoo and is trying to figure out what to do - he already left the dock (without paying) - it sounds like he was towing it behind his other boat. He and his buddy decide the best thing to do is pull the plug on the seadoo and drag it around behind his boat for a while to let all the gas drain out (and into the lake).

Kinda a bummer on many levels.

Things like these make having the boat in the garage not so bad getting it out everytime.

My thought exactly!!!

I believe that Perko has some kind of a locking gas cap.

This one may be good for the pre 2003 gas caps (black plastic ones) Link
