Fuel Filters

Recommended Posts

How many fuel filters are there on my '05 v-ride? I have changed the inline one at the fuel tank, but in all the searches I do it is hard to tell if only early boats had two filters.

This is the first boat I have had that didn't have a screw on fuel filter (that looks similar to an oil filter). Why not? Can/should I get one?

Thanks,

My 2004 VLX has just one. I change it annually. Unless you are using a lot of Marina gas, I would not think you need a cartridge style filter...unless, of course, you just want one Biggrin.gif

As mentioned, you just have one. Boats with carb (ACK!) motors use water seperating fuel filters (screw on type as you mentioned) since carbs (ACK!) don't have the ability to pass water through the fuel bowls. Fuel Injectors on the other hand handle bad gas and water much better. (Not perfect, but much better)

Again as already stated, after the important change at the 10 hr service, once a year is perfect.

Peter. :)

Just to make sure, my '05 iRide has only one as well, correct?

Curiously, my cousin's 2001 SS Lxi. Has a spin on filter on the return fuel line AFTER the Fuel injection...kind of pointless I would think.

I'll have to look again, but I am 90% sure it is on the return fuel line, and I am not sure if they have an inline on back by the gas tank or not.

Mine was on the supply line about 4" from the cell. I relocated it to below the floor for easier access, being taking the back of the trunk apart was a pain. I was also concerned about repeatedly removing the screws (14) would eventually strip out the glass they were threaded into. The factory put them in so tight a few were stripped already.
