Prop choice

I have 3 props for my 2012 VLX with 350 Monsoon.

OJ XMP475 14.25 x 14.5 cup .090"

Acme 1273 14.5 x 14.25

Acme 2249 15.0 x 14.25

What would work best for 3000+lb of water ballasted rig? Add 6 to 8 people to that ballast and she gets pretty sluggish.

I want to sell one but need to keep my best 2 choices. All 3 seem to be very similar but I haven't run each since running this kind of weight. Only ran the 2249 with this weight.

Would the smaller diameter let it spool up easier?

A real good question would be how does the cup affect your "true" pitch? You could always send your 2249 to Acme and have them modify it for ya. That's what I'm thinking of doing to my 2247 this winter. I'm happy with my 2247, but max RPM for it is about 4950 right now and I used to bounce off the rev limiter with the 1235. I also occasionally run about 2800lbs of weight and can feel it struggle a bit with 8 people on the boat. Foiling is awesome with the 1273 and the 2247, so thinking maybe a 15" prop with say a 13.5" pitch would work really well. The 15" does get out of the hole better due to the extra bite, but I think the 14.25" pitch is a little much for our Monsoon motors. Keep the 1273 for a spare and run the modified 2247 is what I'm planning.

I believe the rep at ACME said that for every .05" of cup equals 1" of effective pitch.

Yeah, I remember someone posting what ACME said, just couldn't remember the numbers. Thanks for that. I'm definitely going to have my 2247 tweaked a bit this winter (probably to the 2391 specs). I'd probably run the 1273 for normal conditions and the 2391 for heavy/high altitude.

Dalt, none of the above.

Take the 2249 and send it to Nettles or one of the other prop companies... and have them re-pitch it like a 2315 to a 15x12 for around 50-$100.

The reason I pick the 2249, is the 350 will never have enough hp/tq to swing it up to 5000+rpms, too big and too steep of pitch for the 350. the 15x12 would be perfect, just be advised of a 38mph resulting top speed. And its already 15" dia. FYI, thy can add material and make those 14" props up to 15s also, more money though.
