96 echelon beeps when pulling a skier

Recommended Posts

A friend of mine has a 96 echelon and whenever they try to pull a skier the boat beeps and the power cuts. However when driving the boat without pulling anything, there isn't an issue. They've taken it to multiple marina's but haven't been able to find anything wrong. I suspect that is a bare wire somewhere but I have limited knowledge about boats. The boat is immaculate and has low hours.

Has anyone experienced a similar problem or have an idea of what this could be?

Sounds like its going into limp mode. What is oil pressure and level? What is temp gauge reading?

I don't know the details on that, however I would suspect that the levels are ok being that two different dealers have looked at it. I could be wrong though.

I'll ask my friend tonight.

I 'd agree on the limp mode statement. Is the a carb of fuel injection? If FI you could have a bad pressure regulator or fuel pump that is causing a rich/lean condition that the computer is picking up. Again if it's FI get a fuel pressure gauge and attach it to the Schrader valve on the fuel rail. While you pull the skier up have someone watch the gauge and what the reading is and if it stays constant. High, low or inconsistent reading can cause the computer to go in limp mode.

If it's a carb..... never mind.....

I did get an update, although I have got a lot of information that everyone was asking.. I apologize for that. However the marina found a small leak in the backside of the water pump. I wouldn't think that would cause the boat to go into limp mode?
