Steering Column Chatter at Take Off

Recommended Posts

2008 247 Lsv. Randomly, when I take off with the wedge down, I get fairly heavy chatter in the steering column. Hasn't happened with the wedge up. Normal?

For those who recently said this never happens, here ya go.

It could be a worn rudder bearing, or a worn helm. I would start with the helm first since it is cheaper and easier to repair. However, give that rudder a good shake while on the trailer and see it there is any play. If so, you might want to start there first.

It could be a number of things, But my guess would be something is loose. Since you say you are feeling it only with the wedge down and in the steering wheel and not the whole boat. I would suspect the rudder or steering first.

I would start by checking each of these very carefully... Prop, rudder, Steering cable, Wedge, drive shaft, struts, fins

Good luck
