Acme Upgrade

Recommended Posts

I tried the new prop on the Skier today and anyone considering upgrading should know that it is well worth the investment. The prop I took off is an OJ Legend 13x13. It is the original prop that came with the boat and has never been damaged.

Acceleration from all speeds is greatly improved. When nailing the throttle from idle, there seems to be much less bow rise and the boat just gets up and goes. Much less vibration, too. The boat is noticablely smoother at all speeds but, especially at fast takes offs from idle. Top end is the same which is 44 mph GPS. RPMs are about the same except for WOT which is now 4300 versus 4400 with the OJ. It is also quieter and does not sing. The wakes look the same. I did not ski them.

The only drawback, which is very minor for me, is that the boat goes much faster at idle.

This is an upgrade that is well worth doing.

I also added a new wheel this weekend and withsimilar results much better acceleration thru whole power band. And smooth as (well... glass) Went from legend 13x13 4blade to 13x12.5 3 blade xmp. Similar rpms and mph WOT. However, could the difference between 3 and 4 blade make a differnce in wake? Call me nuts but I swear the rooster tail moved from 22 to 28 off and at 32 is slightly harder than it used to be. Could that be so?

I thought the rooster tail looked bigger and closer to the boat, (sounds like what you're saying). My son thought it looked the same. We'll know for sure when we ski it.

Most that I know that have installed the OJ XMP (myself included) noticed the wake was softer after the change. I've put an XMP on my RLXi and feel the wakes are definitely softer than with the ACME that came stock.

FWIW - there were two towboats at the CA skisix@38 clinic, an SLXi and a RLXi. The SLXi had an OJ XMP on it. From what I heard, the comments very favorable on the SLXi's performance at the event...especially the wake quality. Maybe someone who attended can chime in...

The SLXi had a noticably smaller & softer wake than the RLXi (Sorry Rod). I was thinking it was the wakeboard tower on the RLXi loaded down with racks, speakers,...didn't even think about the prop but that makes sense. The wake behind my sporty got softer (no obvious change in size but maybe slightly smaller) when I switched from an OJ Legend 13X14 4 blade to a OJ XMP 13X12 3 blade.

What kind of WOT are you getting? I am running a XMP 13X11.5 and run a bit above 4800.
