This might be a dumb question, but . . .

A new dumb question. I see some questions and topics every now and then on storing surf boards on the boat. Some looking for bimini pockets, others in custom racks on top of the tower. My question is why not just put them in the spinning tower racks? Is it just people carrying a lot of equipment and run out of rack space?

I have the clamping rack and just throw the boards in there when not in use (only on the water, not while trailering). Am I doing something wrong, risking injury or damage?

It is a combination of things, most of us have bungee racks, which will damage the more fragile surf constructed boards.

Second, on weekends i frequently have a crew of 6 riders. It is not uncommon to have 3 wakeboards, and 5 surfboards. So we run out of rack space quickly.

I have just one set of racks, but my surf pockets accommodate 4 more surfs, with no risk of damaging them. Plus the pockets are easier to get boards in and out of.

Do I run the risk of damaging my surf board (Byerly Hazzard) by putting it in the clamp rack? Or are the clamps considered safe for surf boards?
