Response with LS1 runs warm at top speed

I had the same issue on my 2001 23 LSV with the LS1. I replaced the impeller and thermostat. I cleaned out some debris from cooler, just down stream from the impeller and then topped off the coolant. Now it runs good. The thermostat is a 160 degree thermostat and it keeps the engine running right about 160. If I am in neutral, it will ease up to 180, maybe 200, but then comes right back down. I should also mention that the serpentine belt broke right about the same time, so I replaced that. It may have been slipping prior to the breakage, leading to poor impeller and water pump speeds, but I doubt it. Good luck!

Previous owner must of smoked the old impeller. I found it in pieces before the tranny cooler. Thanks for the tip. I should have known this a friend had the same issue with his boat.
