GPS speed calibration

After surfing most of the season at what I thought was 10.8 we went out last week and wakeboarded all day. We all usually ride at 24 or so in a fully ballasted boat. We all felt the speed was way fast but knew it was GPS so just went with it. Well over the weekend I was just cruising the lake and decided to check speed with speed app on phone and it was off 4 MPH at 25. Boat going way faster than speed shown. Not hard to fix in the setup screen but I would have never thought GPS would require calibrating. Now everything feels normal while wakeboarding and we are surfing at 11.6-12 where I felt we should be.

Not really asking a question just letting others know to check GPS speed. Maybe I am the only one that didn't know and if so sorry to waste everyone's time. I feel kind of dumb but all previous boats have been paddle wheel and I knew to calibrate them.

Did you have a bunch of wet towels or something over the GPS antenna? GPS does not need calibrating, and normally will give about 0.1 meter/second accuracy. The main thing that could throw it off is loss of signals from the satellites. Make sure the antenna has clear view of the sky and try again.

No blockage of signal Gary. I am with u thtrog it has to be after the GPS unit sends data to the speed controller. I wonder if the built in nav has speed. I haven't activated it so I was just curious. I was thinking of switching to paddle wheel to see how it was but haven't. I have had to shut down the system once this summer due to not showing speed at all.
